Meeting Expectations

For many, being an illustrator seems too good to be true. People ask for drawings. You draw them. You get paid. Everyone sees them published. It’s simple. And yet, it’s not. You see, drawing for others is tricky.

The training of an illustrator is the training of the artist for others. It’s the art of meeting expectations of the viewer, the client and yourself. The greatest illustrators exceed all expectations… creating work that enlightens, entertains and shows little evidence that the task at hand was fraught with danger.
